Simple sushi, A Simple Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sushi rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/4 cup of rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 lb of fresh tuna sashimi
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • Wasabi paste
  • Pickled ginger

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, combine the rice and water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until the sugar and salt dissolve.
  4. When the rice is done, transfer it to a large bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Mix gently until the rice is evenly coated.
  5. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
  6. On a cutting board, slice the tuna into small, thin pieces.
  7. To assemble the sushi rolls, place a sheet of nori shiny side down on a sushi mat or piece of plastic wrap.
  8. Spoon a small amount of rice onto the nori and spread it out in a thin layer, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
  9. Add slices of tuna, avocado, and cucumber on top of the rice.
  10. Roll the sushi tightly, using the mat or plastic wrap to help shape it.
  11. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  12. Slice the sushi rolls into pieces and serve with soy sauce, wasabi paste, and pickled ginger. Enjoy!
