Criticalmatters was founded in around 2010 by Colin Humphrey. Originally it served as a social site for artists to submit portfolios and have an online gallery. It later evolved into reviews for art exhibitions all genuine articles written by the founder, which you can still see in our culture archives if you go back to around 2013 or before. It evolved again around 2020 into a Criticalmatters news and more recently in 2026 to Criticalmatters GNN (Global News Network) for current affairs and user generated and created content sitting alongside criticalmatters’ own articles. This currently reflects the sites ambitions to become a premier partner of choice for curated, edited user submitted news.
The founder is a member of the British Association of Journalists and founded criticalmatters as an attempt to decentralise the news and give anyone the chance to respond to world events and create the news as it relates to or in many cases directly affects them. We are not a uniform mass of opinions and criticalmatters prefers to see the shades of grey and nuance rather than the generic. We are a new plat form and our growing and welcome content in the categories listed above.
We’re currently undergoing a taxonomy and re-classicification to allow for more granular news categories reflecting changing trends and allowing for international, regional and local news segmented by age based contributions across different continents, regions and localities. If you have an article you think the world needs to hear then, join the conversation or follow us on facebook, instagram, youtube, TikTok, LinkedIn and X/Twitter or why not submit your own article! Or email at contribute@criticalmatters.net
