Contributor Submission Guide
Welcome to the Global News Network (GNN) contributor network. We provide a platform for independent journalists, field reporters, and subject-matter experts to publish impactful, truth-driven stories for a global audience. To maintain our standard of editorial excellence, all submissions must comply with the guidelines detailed below.
1. Core Principles: Objective, Newsworthy, and Unbiased
Our platform exists to inform the public, not to serve as an unearned marketing or search engine optimization vehicle.
- Newsworthiness Baseline: All contributions must possess undeniable newsworthiness and hold genuine interest for a global audience. The piece must address contemporary developments, public policy, culture, or societal trends. Mundane, hyper-local, or irrelevant subject matter will not pass our editorial triage.
- Absolute Objectivity: Content must maintain strict structural neutrality. Reporting should rely on verifiable events, data, and balanced perspectives rather than personal biases or emotional prose.
- No Self-Promotion or Link Schemes: Submissions cannot function primarily to market a business, individual brand, product, service, or personal commercial venture. GNN does not accept content designed to act as a vehicle for search engine optimization (SEO) link-building campaigns. Hyperlinks embedded to artificially inflate search rankings or fulfill hidden paid insertion contracts are strictly prohibited.
2. Accepted Content Formats & Styles
We accept a diverse range of journalistic formats, provided they anchor themselves to factual reality:
- Standard Journalism & Analytical Essays: Fact-driven, multi-sourced reporting on current events and global affairs.
- Live & Breaking News: If you are located near or within an active crisis zone, natural disaster, or ongoing conflict, GNN accepts real-time, on-the-ground updates. We believe it is highly important to capture and correct accurate, unvarnished views from the frontline.
- Whistleblowing: GNN securely accepts whistleblowing submissions that expose corporate, institutional, or governmental wrongdoing.
- Entertainment News ‘Tips’: Insider tips or scoops regarding the entertainment industry are accepted, provided they are entirely factually true and verifiably accurate rather than baseless tabloid rumors.
- Satire & Humour: While core reporting must remain entirely objective, creative humor may be utilized in an explicitly satirical way to critique institutions, public policies, or systemic issues.
3. Content Length Thresholds
To ensure topics are handled with sufficient depth, nuance, and structural context, we enforce the following article length parameters:
- Standard Benchmark: General analytical essays, investigative reports, and comprehensive news stories should aim for a benchmark length of 850 words or more.
- Contextual Exceptions: Shorter articles may be approved on a case-by-case basis if contextually acceptable. This is primarily reserved for fast-evolving breaking news alerts, emergency on-the-ground updates from crisis zones, or highly compressed investigative breakthroughs.
4. Fact-Checking, Sources, and Anonymity
Our reputation rests entirely on the accuracy of what we publish. Every contributor is an extension of that reputation.
- Mandatory Fact-Checking: All submissions must be completely factual, accurate, and verifiably sourced. Claims made without evidentiary backing will be rejected.
- Source Attribution: Data points, historical assertions, statistics, direct quotes, and critical investigative claims must be backed by transparent, verifiable primary sourcing explicitly cited within the text.
- Author Identification & Whistleblowing Protections: As a standard rule, your submission must include your real, professional legal name for public clear-byline attribution. However, contributors may explicitly opt out of public attribution in the case of verified whistleblowing to protect themselves from institutional or personal retaliation.
5. Image and Media Attribution
Visual assets accompanying submissions must complement our high standard of editorial integrity.
- Ownership & Licensing: All uploaded or embedded imagery must be completely original, explicitly licensed under a Creative Commons framework, or accompanied by proper legal attribution and photographer credit.
- Subject to Removal: Any media asset included where explicit permission or verifiable right-of-use has not been sought will be immediately subject to removal.
6. Prohibited Content & Policy Violations
GNN maintains zero-tolerance parameters for content that compromises truth, safety, or legal boundaries. The following types of content are explicitly banned:
- Hate Speech: Any content that attacks, dehumanizes, incites violence against, or promotes hatred toward individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
- Explicit Images & Violence: GNN does not accept explicit images or graphic nudity of any kind. Gratuitously violent visuals or content depicting dangerous, unlawful scenarios will be deleted instantly.
- Misinformation & Non-Factual Content: Fabricated events, manipulated multimedia, unverified conspiracy theories, or assertions deliberately presented to deceive the public violate our core standards.
Enforcement Notice: Submitting any content that includes hate speech, explicit media, intentional misinformation, or harmful representations of dangerous scenarios constitutes a severe violation of our Content Policy, Terms of Service, and Community Standards, and will result in an immediate and permanent platform ban.
